Biography
I have always been intrigued by the nature of birth. As a young adult I had planned on becoming an OB/GYN, but while attending college I strayed away from medicine and graduated with a BA in Studio Arts from Slippery Rock University. A few years later, after the birth of my daughter, my passion for birth was reignited. My labor was attended by a midwife at a freestanding birth center. Without that rally of support surrounding me I would not have had the birth I dreamed of. Birth is truly a rite of passage and the birth of my daughter became my testimony.
So without any hesitation I began training with Cornerstone Doula Trainings. I have attended various advanced trainings in Postpartum Doula Care, Breastfeeding Support, Optimal Fetal Positioning, Homebirth for Doulas, and will be certified in Neonatal
Resuscitation in the very near future.
In addition to doula work, I have completed a 10-week rape crisis training and now volunteer as a Rape Crisis Hot line Counselor/ Advocate through Bay Area Women Against Rape (BAWAR).
I am originally from Pittsburgh, PA but have lived in the Bay Area since 2005, where I hope to pursue dream of becoming a midwife. I am a mother to a beautiful daughter, and a caring and hopeful wife to my partner. I am also a lover of the arts, knitting, Japanese crafting books, and independent films and music.
I believe in the power of birth. I believe in its potential to offer healing, empowerment, transformation and renewal. With this potential, I believe how babies are born impacts their lives and the future of this planet. I value every woman’s power and right to choose how she births her baby. A new woman is born as a new life is born, and I am hopeful and invigorated to serve. I look forward to working with you.
